I purchased the SD-R6472 to replace my SD-R6112 drive in my Sager 8890. I must admit to getting a little confused, as to wether or not this drive will WRITE dual layer discs. Toshiba says yes it will on one site, and then says READ only on another site.
Naturally the first thing I did when I received it, was to try and write a D/L DVD........no problems ! My drive is Jan/05 with firmware TU50 . I did notice that it would go to the TS folders of the copied DVD when it was inserted. I upgraded the firmware to TU51, and this appears to have solved this small problem, and it now plays the disc like any normal DVD. AND I CAN BURN D/L yes ...Yes ....YES !!
It's quiter than the SD-R6112 when it runs, and ejects more gently. Definatly an improvement over the old drive.
I got the delivery e-mail to say the drive was on its way to Australia - had to open the door for somone whilst reading my emails - it was the delivery bloke dropping off my drive!!!.........talk about QUICK DELIVERY ! U.S.A _ AUST 24hrs.
My only complaint would be the lack of choice with postage ( $40USD airmail - the only one offered). I would have been happy to get this item 7-10 days after ordering and pay alot less for postage. Not much point geting a good deal on an item and then giving the saved $$$ to the mail service.
